The present invention relates to a composition containing an Artemisia annua L. extract for prevention or treatment of fatty liver or obesity. The Artemisia annua L. extract has effects of increasing the activity of AMPK related to adipogenesis inhibition and inhibiting the activities of SREBP-1 and FAS which are a transcription factor of fatty acid synthesis. Accordingly, the Artemisia annua L. extract has excellent effects in inhibiting the increase of body weight, liver weight, subcutaneous fat, blood glucose concentration, etc. and inhibiting the synthesis of fatty acid, cholesterol and triglyceride so the Artemisia annua L. extract can be easily used as a theraupetic agent of fatty liver or obesity.
