The present invention relates to a coating layer of hot and warm forging dies and a surface treatment method for hot and warm forging dies. The coating layer of hot and warm forging dies is composed of: a nitride layer formed on the surface of a forging die; and a zirconium nitride layer formed on the surface of the nitride layer, wherein the zirconium nitride layer is polycrystalline. According to the present invention, the coating layer of hot and warm forging dies has an excellent restoration force by significantly lowering the ratio of Youngs modulus to hardness as the polycrystalline zirconium nitride layer having the optimal uniform crystal orientation is additionally coated on the nitride layer.
