METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR STREAMING MULTIMEDIA CONTENT IN A WIRELESS FEDELITY DISPLAY NETWORK ENVIRONMMENT

The present invention provides a method and system for streaming multimedia content in a Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) Display (WFD) network environment. When a request for streaming multimedia content is received, the Wi-Fi source device performs a device search operation to search for Wi-Fi sink devices. Then, the Wi-Fi source device establishes a Transport Control Protocol (TCP) connection with the Wi-Fi sink devices. Upon successful establishment of the TCP connection, the Wi-Fi source device establishes a WFD session with the Wi-Fi sink devices. Thereafter, the Wi-Fi source device streams the multimedia content to the Wi-Fi sink devices using a basic codec format. At substantially the same time, the Wi-Fi source device performs capability negotiation with the one or more Wi-Fi sink devices. In addition, the Wi-Fi source device seamlessly continues streaming the multimedia content to the Wi-Fi sink devices during the ongoing WFD session using the negotiated codec format during the capability negotiation.
