A method for the optimal approximate decoding of network coded data according to the embodiments of the present invention is the optimal approximate decoding of the network coded data in an ad hoc network comprising a source node, an intermediate node, and a reception node. The problem to be solved in the present invention is to provide the method for the optimal approximate decoding of the network coded data using source data statistics for the smooth approximate decoding of delay sensitive data. According to the method for the optimal approximate decoding of the network coded data from the source data with a unimodal distributed difference of symbols, the reception node performs the optimal approximate decoding to make the symbol difference of the source data have unimodal distribution.
