The present invention relates to a process for separating CO ₂ from a gaseous mixture. A stream of the mixed gas passes through one side of the facilitated transport membrane, while a sweep fluid, such as steam, passes through the other side of the membrane to remove CO ₂ . The method is particularly useful in the removal of CO ₂ from the gas produced by an internal combustion engine on a mobile device.
