Disclosed are a method and a device for facial expression recognition using a local feature based adaptive decision tree. The method for facial expression recognition by the facial expression recognition device includes steps of: dividing local regions from a facial region included in an input image; extracting expression features from the respective local regions using a preset feature extraction algorithm; and recognizing facial expressions from the input image using the expression features extracted on the basis of a decision tree generated by repeatedly classifying facial expressions into two categories until one facial expression is included in one category and deciding each facial expression for a relevant category.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2015
