The present invention relates to a method and a system for providing real-time bus location information using a smartphone application, the method comprising: a first step in which, when a server receives a device′s unique number and current location transmitted by a location providing application executed in a smartphone of a passenger in a bus, the location providing application seizes a bus route of the bus by using information recorded in a database through the server; and a second step in which, when the server receives location information or a bus stop name transmitted by a location requesting application executed in the smartphone of a user who is going to use a bus, current locations of buses approaching a bus stop are transmitted to the location requesting application by using information recorded in the database through the server. Accordingly, the present invention lets a bus user know the current locations of buses by using an application of a smartphone, to provide convenience for users to use the buses, it is possible to reduce installation costs for constructing the current bus information system, maintenance manpower and costs are not incurred, and the invention can be used together in big cities in which the current bus information system is introduced as well as small and medium cities in which the bus information system is not introduced.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2016
