The present invention relates to a method for controlling energy usage of a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system, comprising: a process of determining the absence of a user from a use space to control energy usage; a process of determining whether to start energy control or not by using a probability of that the user is away or at home and the probability distribution of a period when the user is away based on the data collected and stored in advance if it is determined that the user is away; a process of extracting a probability of that the user is away by predetermined time intervals and the probability distribution of a period when the user is away by the predetermined time intervals based the data collected and stored in advance if it is determined to start energy control; a process of selecting a time interval to run energy control based on a probability of that the user arrives, which is calculated based on the extracted probability distribution and calculating the target temperature for the selected time interval; and a process of setting a reservation to run energy control based on the selected time interval and the calculated target temperature.
