The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating muscle atrophy due to neural damage or microgravity, containing an extract of Oenothera odorata as an active ingredient. The extract of Oenothera odorata inhibits the apoptosis of muscle cells or tissues by increasing expression of heat shock proteins, which have cell protective ability and antioxidative effects in disused muscles or in a no-load condition supposing a space environment, thereby exhibiting effects of anti-muscle atrophy and thus being useful for treating, preventing, or ameliorating muscle atrophy due to neural damage or microgravity.
