YTTRIUM TRI-IODIDE TARGET FOR NUCLEAR TRANSMUTATION OF NUCLIDE IODINE-129 AND THE MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF, AND TREATMENT SYSTEM FOR NUCLIDE IODINE-129 USING IT
The present invention relates to a yttrium tri-iodide target and a manufacturing method thereof, and a treatment system for nuclide iodine-129 using the same. The present invention can reduce the environmental radioactivity of the long-term management and spent nuclear fuel by effectively and stably removing iodine-129, by nuclear transformation that iodine-129 of long-lived nuclide generated in spent nuclear fuel reacts with neutron to be changed into a stable element in a reduction treatment system of high-level radioactive waste discharged from an incinerator-type nuclear reactor. A yttrium tri-iodide target is radiative yttrium tri-iodide powder generated by the combination reaction of metal yttrium particles and iodine-129 separated from spent nuclear fuel or a high-density yttrium tri-iodide bar of compressed powder by a manufacturing method of a lower temperature nuclear nondiffusible metal nuclear fuel. The yttrium tri-iodide target is changed into zirconium or xenon by nuclear transformation by neutron.
