The present invention relates to a sensor mechanism which detects frost attached to a surface of an outdoor evaporator of a heat pump system to perform defrosting of the outdoor evaporator and, more specifically, relates to a frost accumulation detecting sensor to defrost an outdoor evaporator of a heat pump system wherein a first temperature sensor, a second temperature sensor, and a sensor unit in which a heating resistor is installed on a PCB are inserted to a sensor casing opened forward and backward; the first temperature sensor is disposed on a front side or a rear side of the PCB; the second temperature sensor and the heating resistor are disposed close to each other on a rear side or a front side separated with a predetermined gap from the first temperature sensor; cold air flowing in through an outdoor evaporator passing through the sensor casing when frost is not attached to the outdoor evaporator so as not to detect a slight heat of the heating resistor by the second temperature sensor; the second temperature sensor detects the slight heat of the heating resistor when frost is attached to the outdoor evaporator and external air does not flow into the sensor casing through the outdoor evaporator; a defrosting signal is transmitted based on a difference from a temperature value measured by the first temperature sensor; a defrosting time point of the outdoor evaporator more accurately detects to perform an efficient system operation capable of preventing unnecessary operation stop or waste of energy of the heat pump system; the entire sensor mechanism disposed inside a housing for an outdoor evaporator to minimize malfunction or damage; price is affordable; and installation and maintenance are easy.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2015
