The present invention relates to a low power communications method of a node in a sensor network. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the method comprises the following steps. Each node operates in a three-phase duty cycle including a sleep state, an auxiliary sleep state and an auxiliary active state, and a transmission node which woke up from the sleep state transmits a beacon signal to a reception node. As a response to the beacon signal is received from the reception node, a power cycle which repeats an auxiliary sleep state turning a radio off and an auxiliary active state turning a radio on is applied and data transmission is prepared. As preparation of the data transmission is completed, a preamble signal corresponding to a period of the auxiliary active state is transmitted to establish a connection with the reception node. Data are transmitted to the connection-established reception node. Finally, as the transmission of the data is completed, synchronization between the transmission node and the reception node is performed.
