Assumption torque determination in front of the direction for an internal combustion engine which, during a gear mechanism switching time interval a torque reduction process, wherein during the transmission of the switching time span, a torque, of which it is assumed that it is emitted by the internal combustion engine, and which, on a desired torque (tqt) is based, from which a corresponding amount of the torque reduction process is excluded, as an assumption of torque (tect) is fixed, wherein the assumption of torque determination in front of the direction is characterized by:an acceptance of a model torque calculation unit (50), which an assumption model torque (tmdl) from the desired torque (tqt), from which a corresponding amount of the torque reduction process is excluded, on the basis of a fuel calculated force machines delay model; andan acceptance of a torque calculation unit (50), which, prior to performing the torque reduction in the torque reduction process assuming a torque (tect) on the basis of a fuel force machines operation state (ga, ne, accp, thw) are calculated and the when carrying out the torque reduction in the torque reduction process assuming a torque (tect) on the basis of the assumption of model torque (tmdl) and one of the engine operating condition (ga, ne, accp, thw) calculated assumption of torque (tect) is calculated.
