The present invention relates to a method for determining a position (x) of a of a magnetic coil (11) movable armature (12) of a magnet actuator (10) of an internal combustion engine, wherein an inductance of the magnetic coil (11) is determined, and from the inductance of the position (x) of the armature (12) is determined. The invention is particularly suitable for the determination of the armature position of a metering unit and a pressure regulating valve of common - rail - systems.
