The present disclosure is directed to a laser-based process in liquid for making a solution of fine particles of amorphous solid medical compounds, a solution to the fine particles of amorphous medical agents made by the process, and the fine particles made by the process directed. By using a target material that has been solidified via a phase transition process to convert an initial crystalline structure into an amorphous solid structure, technical difficulties with the handling of a hydraulically pressed target material have been overcome. The laser-based ablation process produces fine particles of the amorphous solid medical compound, which improves the bioavailability and the solubility of the medical compound. The improvement results from a combination of: a disordered crystalline structure and an increased relative surface area through particle size reduction. The laser-based process can be carried out with ultra-short pulsed laser systems or with UV nanosecond lasers. The results obtained with an ultrashort near-IR laser and a UV nanosecond laser show the formation of fine particles of the amorphous solid curcumin.
