AC / DC converter with clamped step-up and step-down modes and harmonic control at the DC output

Methods, apparatus and circuits for an AC / DC buck converter with harmonic control at the DC output are disclosed. An example is directed to an AC / DC converter configured to generate a DC output current at a target output voltage. The converter is configured to convert the AC input voltage to an increased DC output voltage in response to an AC input voltage that is less than the target output voltage. The converter is further configured to convert a first portion of the AC input voltage to a clamped, increased DC output voltage in response to the AC input voltage being greater than the target output voltage. The converter is further configured to buffer a second portion of the AC input voltage as a buffered DC voltage. The converter is also designed to apply the buffered DC voltage to the clamped, increased DC output voltage.
