Preparing hollow metal oxide particles by pyrolysis of aerosol, comprises spraying a liquid solution containing a metal oxide precursor in a solvent at given molar concentration to obtain a spray of droplets of the solution, vectorizing the spray in a flow of carrier gas, heating the spray at a drying temperature to ensure the evaporation of the solvent and formation of particles, heating the particles at high pyrolysis temperature to ensure the decomposition of the precursor for forming the metal oxide, and recovering the particles, where the solution further comprises a blowing agent.
