The present invention relates to a support device for a guard post and a portion of at least one snow retaining bar and for attachment to a roof covering. According to the invention, the support device is characterized in that it comprises an elongated support plate (9) which can be fixed to the roof covering (1) in the direction of the slope thereof, a foot of support (14) integral with the support plate (9) and to which can be removably attached the lower end portion of a guard post (7), and a support plate (16) rigidly secured to the foot of support (14) along the latter and having at least one hole (17) of axis transverse to the foot (14) to allow the passage and the support of the portion of a bar (8) of snow retention. The invention finds application in the field of building.
