This method of determining a ray pattern of an ultrasonic wave between a transmission point and a reception point of a structure, this path traversing at least one diffracting interface, comprises: a discretization (102, 104) of the structure at a plurality of secondary diffraction points; the construction (106, 108, 110) of an oriented graph, the nodes of which comprise the transmission point, the reception point and the set of secondary diffraction points, and whose oriented links are associated with weights representing propagation times between the nodes they connect; and a processor selection (112) of the ray trace minimizing the sum of the weights of the links traveled between the transmitting point and the receiving point. Several propagation velocity values associated with several propagation modes are stored in memory and, during the construction (106, 108, 110) of the oriented graph, each selected oriented link is associated (106, 110) with a propagation velocity of those stored in memory according to the location of this link with respect to the diffracting interface, for the calculation of its weight.
