The invention responds to a need to improve the reliability of activation of an aircraft distress beacon. To do this, the invention relates to a beacon activation system, designed to determine a position difference (Ep) between a theoretical position (Pt) of the aircraft determined from the data of the flight plan, and a real position (Pr) of the aircraft determined from the navigation and surveillance equipment on board the aircraft. In addition, this system is designed to deliver an arming order of the distress beacon when one or more conditions are met, including the condition that the positional deviation (Ep) exceeds a critical value (Vc).
