Methods and devices for monitoring the state of the performance of a processor based on the extensibility of the load are described. According to one embodiment, the logic detects a request to modify a performance setting for a processor. The logic causes a change in the request based on load extensibility information that is detected by the hardware in the processor. The extensibility information of the load is detected over a period (of observation for example). Other embodiments are also presented in the description and in the claims.
