The invention relates to a novel composition and a novel process for the preparation of stealth magnetic nanoparticles. This composition consists of metal oxide nanoparticles coated with multifunctional attachment / biodistribution / targeting polymers composed, within the same macromolecule, of one or more phosphoric attachment groups allowing the binding to the surface of the magnetic particles and one or more hydrophilic functions capable of binding or being recognized by target cells or tissues. The invention relates to the use of these stabilized nanoparticles as a contrast agent for the characterization, diagnosis and therapeutic monitoring in the field of nuclear medicine.
