Method for determining a relationship between the opening time for an injector (9) of a cylinder (8) in a combustion engine (1) and the amount of fuel injected by the injector, according to which method: - during a succession of power strokes in which the same opening time is applied to the injector at each of them, the injector is caused to inject fuel in the form of late injections so this fuel undergoes no combustion in the cylinder and this unburnt fuel accompanies the engine's exhaust gases to a fuel oxidation device (4) in order to be oxidised therein and cause a increase in the temperature of the exhaust gases, - a temperature increase value which represents said increase in the temperature of the exhaust gases is determined, - a calculation value which represents the mass flow of said fuel is determined on the basis of the temperature increase value, a fuel mass flow value representing the mass flow of fuel injected into and burnt in the engine and an air mass flow representing the mass flow of air in the engine's air intake, and - said relationship is determined on the basis of the calculation value.
