The invention relates to a method for estimating the appearance of a pressure fault in a tyre provided on the wheels of a motor vehicle, said estimation being the result of an analysis of the angular speeds of the wheels according to a first algorithm (20) based on an analysis of the speed difference between each one of said wheels and according to a second algorithm (10) based on a spectral analysis of the speed of the wheel, each one of the algorithms providing, for each wheel, an underinflation probability value and an associated rate of confidence in accordance with a wheel speed range. According to the invention, a decision-making module provides, for a given underinflation situation, a unique detection result ((P x T)final) of said underinflation situation obtained by matrix-based merging of the underinflation probability values and the rate of confidence that are the result of the two algorithms, said unique detection result being used to trigger an underinflation warning signal.
