A method for comparing shots, comprises: providing a context description of a shot to be filmed; analyzing said context description and extracting therefrom a shot fingerprint, called a candidate shot fingerprint; comparing said candidate shot fingerprint to a set of reference shot fingerprints stored in a database and identifying, within said set, at least one reference shot fingerprint showing similarities with said candidate shot fingerprint, if any; issuing from said database at least one video sequence associated with said at least one identified reference shot fingerprint, if any. Such a method may provide guidance to a director for deciding how to film a given shot.
