Method for switching from a first to a second mobile network operator and corresponding device

A mobile device comprises a chip (SIM, USIM) which stores subscriptions (IMSIs) relating to multiple network operators which relate to home or foreign countries. The chip receives location information from the device and determines the avaible wireless networks and the communication technology (RAT, e.g. GSM, UMTS, LTE). The (extended) cell identity of the reported cells is used to determine the RAT. If the currently available communication technology matches a preferred RAT, the chip decides to switch to a second subscription associated to the preferred RAT.
