Provided is an apparatus for an insulation design. The apparatus for the insulation design, which performs the insulation design of a high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system, includes an insulation design part generating an insulation model of the HVDC transmission system, a lighting arrester modeling part generating a lighting arrester model that satisfies a specification of a lighting arrester selected for the lighting arrester within the insulation model of the HVDC transmission system, a simulation test part performing a simulation test of the lighting arrester model in the insulation model of the HVDC transmission system to output a lighting arrester simulation test result, a comparison part acquiring a lighting arrester property test result and comparing the lighting arrester property test result to the lighting arrester simulation test result, and a result output part outputting a verification result of the lighting arrester on the basis of the comparison between the lighting arrester property test result and the lighting arrester simulation test result.
