PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of effectively suppressing foaming of a molten slag discharged from a converter type refining furnace into a molten slag housing vessel in an intermediate slag discharge process in order to enable operation of such discharge process in a short time in refining of the molten iron continuously performing two oxygen-feeding refining processes holding the intermediate slag discharge process in between using one converter type refining furnace.SOLUTION: Slag foaming is suppressed by: emitting a water jet 8 of a momentum per unit time of 50 kg.m/sor more to the slag housed in a molten slag housing vessel y during and/or after slag discharge in an intermediate slag discharge process; imparting fluidity to the slag to arrange so that water droplets are caught up in a foamed slag; breaking foam of the foamed slag by evaporation and expansion of the water droplets caught up and dispersed in the slag; and by discharge of the gas included in a foamed slag bath 6 out of the bath 6.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
