PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide substantially pure cultures of certain human neural cells including retinal progenitor cells, forebrain progenitor cells and retinal pigmented epithelial cells, and methods for producing the cultures.;SOLUTION: A substantially pure culture of a human neuroepithelial lineage cell comprises: (a) one or more human neuroepithelial lineage cells selected from the group consisting of human retinal progenitor cells, human forebrain progenitor cells, and human retinal pigmented epithelial cells; (b) a culture medium required for maintaining the viability of the human neuroepithelial lineage cells, where the selected one or more human neuroepithelial lineage cells comprise at least 90% of the cells present in the culture.
