PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steam modification catalyst for producing steam from hydrocarbons, alcohols, esters, aldehydes, and the like which contain sulfur or in which a sulfur compound coexists, especially to provide a steam modification material having resistance to sulfur poisoning due to a sulfur containing hydrocarbon contained in a fuel, and a steam modification catalyst using the same.;SOLUTION: Provided is a steam modification material comprising an inorganic oxide for producing hydrogen from a fuel such as hydrocarbons, alcohols, esters, aldehydes, and the like which contain sulfur or in which a sulfur compound coexists. The inorganic oxide comprises a steam modification material and the like having resistance to sulfur poisoning, which has a residual sulfur content of 1 wt.% or less when the inorganic oxide is treated beforehand with sulfuric acid to attach sulfur thereto and, thereafter, heated to 800°C.;SELECTED DRAWING: None;COPYRIGHT: (C)2016,JPO&INPIT
