PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring method of a bearing cup clearance of a universal joint capable of easily assembling a bearing cup to a yoke member with high accuracy, and a method of manufacturing the universal joint applying the measuring method.SOLUTION: A method of measuring a clearance between a bottom surface of a bearing cup 40 and a cross shaft member 30, of a universal joint including a yoke member 20, the bearing cup, and the cross shaft member, includes a process for acquiring a first relation data, a process for acquiring a second relation data, a process for acquiring a displacement amount of a pair of bearing cups, and a calculation process for calculating a clearance α0 between bottom surfaces 42a of the pair of bearing cups and end faces 32a of a pair of shaft portions 32 on the basis of the first relation data, the second relation data and the displacement amount.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
