PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflective liquid crystal phase modulation device and system which offer increased response speed of phase modulation.;SOLUTION: A reflective liquid crystal phase modulation unit 12 allows light of a first polarization direction to make a round trip through the thickness thereof in a first liquid crystal region 12-1 and allows light of a second polarization direction to make a round trip through the thickness thereof in a second liquid crystal region 12-2, thereby producing a phase difference between the light entering the first liquid crystal region 12-1 and the light exiting from the second liquid crystal region 12-2. A first polarization beam splitter 13-1 directs light transmitting therethrough to the first liquid crystal region 12-1. A second polarization beam splitter 13-2 directs reflected light to the second liquid crystal region 12-2. A 1/4 wavelength plate 14 is provided between the reflective liquid crystal phase modulation unit 12 and the first and second polarization beam splitters 13-1, 13-2 to change a polarization direction of incident light and output light of a different polarization direction.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2014,JPO&INPIT
