PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring device and a measuring method capable of efficiently and correctly measuring tang length of steel strip ends after finishing which continuously flow on a hot rolling line in large numbers, after tang is formed by carrying out finishing processing and until the steel strip coil is put into the subsequent processing process, and a method for selecting the steel strip coil using the measuring method.;SOLUTION: In a hot rolling line including a finishing mill, a runout table 80, a coiler 90, and a cooling device 70, a measuring device of tang length of a steel strip end includes: a photographing device 100 arranged at the outlet side of the cooling device 70 within a range of the runout table 80 length for photographing an image of a tang shape of the steel strip end; and an analysis device 110 for analyzing the photographed image and calculating the tang length. The analysis device 110 includes: a position specifying means for specifying a one-end position 12 of the steel strip 10; and a calculation means for calculating the tang length in the image by using the specified one-end position 12 as a starting point.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2014,JPO&INPIT
