PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical filter system, a fluorescence observation system, and a method for carrying out fluorescence observation.SOLUTION: An observation light filter has a blocking region at a wavelength where an illumination light filter has a transmitting region. By the wavelength-dependent transmittance of the observation light filter (O) and the wavelength-dependent transmittance of the illumination light filter (I), light having a wavelength within a wavelength range from 380 nm to 725 nm is substantially prevented from passing through both the filters. The illumination light filter has a wavelength range having a width greater than 45 nm in a region from 440 nm to 560 nm; and in above wavelength range, the illumination light filter has a transmittance of smaller than 0.80.
