PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a granular-type environmental water treatment agent capable of retaining an adsorptive capacity for removal of heavy metals for a long time with sufficient hardness, causing no environmental contamination, having high versatility and easy handling with low water passing resistance when used in a column; and a method for treating water contaminated with harmful substances by using the same.;SOLUTION: A granular-type environmental water treatment agent in a pelletized form for removing harmful substances includes a composition comprising iron powder, magnesia, and an acidic inorganic sulfate with addition of fresh water.
