The present invention relates to a method for processing steelmaking slag to produce a hydraulic mineral binder with high hardening capacity and to recover iron. For this purpose, a feed product comprising steelmaking slag with MnO is provided. This feed product is further processed as a melt by introducing a reducing agent into the melt. Here a lime saturation between 90 and 110 is achieved in the mineral melt part. Subsequently, the melt is cooled in a defined manner and the elemental iron is mechanically separated from the solidified melt. The solidified melt is then fed for use as a hydraulic mineral binder. The present invention further relates to a hydraulic mineral binder.
