Method for adaptive conversation state management with filtering operator applied dynamically as part of conversational interface

Systems and methods for processing search requests are provided. Identification of the desired content item is based on comparing the search request topic with previous user input. The method includes providing access to a set of content items with metadata describing the corresponding content item and providing information regarding previous searches. The method further includes receiving a current input from the user and determining a relevance measure between information about previous searches and elements of the current input. If the relevance measure is high, the method includes selecting a subset of content items based on comparing information about the current input and previous searches with metadata describing the subset of content items. Otherwise, the method includes selecting the subset of content items based on comparing the current input with metadata describing the subset of content items.
