The present invention relates to an open bore MRD with an open bore MRD (100) having a volume of interest for imaging the body part (31) and an entrance opening for inserting the body part into the bore. Discloses an electrically grounded protective sleeve (22) for reducing the propagation of electromagnetic energy to the surrounding external environment and vice versa. The sleeve has a distal portion (23) that can be insertably positioned within the bore and a proximal portion (22) that can be attached to the MRD opening. The length and diameter of the sleeve is shaped and sized so that the non-imaged portion of the body part is within the sleeve while the imaged portion protrudes from the distal end of the sleeve.
