PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel battery system and a catalyst poisoning recovery method for a fuel battery that can remove poisoning material adhering to catalyst of a cathode at the upstream side of cathode gas.SOLUTION: A fuel battery system comprises a fuel battery, a feeding unit for feeding cathode gas to a cathode, a switching unit capable of switching the circulation direction of the cathode gas flowing in a fuel battery through the feeding unit between a forward direction and an inverse direction under normal operation in which the fuel battery generates power in response to an output request, a poisoning diagnosis unit for diagnosing whether recovery processing is to be executed or not, the recovery processing recovering catalyst from poisoning by setting the humidity inside the cathode to a predetermined value or more while maintaining the potential of the cathode to a predetermined value or less, and a recovery processing unit for performing reverse direction recovery processing of making the cathode gas to flow in the reverse direction by the switching unit and executing the recovery processing when execution of the recovery processing is diagnosed by the poisoning diagnosis unit.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
