The method and apparatus are disclosed for establishing a low latency millimeter wave (mmW) backhaul connection. The base station receives an mmW (millimeter wave) relay schedule from the evolved Node B (eNB) within one long term evolution (LTE) scheduling interval. The base station decodes the mmW (millimeter wave) relay schedule and initializes the mmW (millimeter wave) radio transmission resource according to the mmW (millimeter wave) relay schedule. The base station uses the initialized mmW (millimeter wave) radio transmission resource to transmit data from the second base station within the mmW (millimeter wave) transmission time interval (TTI) based on the mmW (millimeter wave) relay schedule. The packet is received and the data packet is transmitted to the third base station based on the mmW (millimeter wave) relay schedule using the initialized mmW (millimeter wave) radio transmission resource. The transmission starts before the reception of the data packet is completed, and the data packet is transmitted from the first relay node and received by the last relay node in the same mmW (millimeter wave) TTI.
