MICRO-RNA-BASED METHODS AND COMPOSITIONS FOR THE DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF COLON CANCER-RELATED DISEASES

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for diagnosing whether a subject has, is at risk for developing, or has reduced survival prognosis for, a colon cancer-related disease, as well as a method for inhibiting tumorigenesis in a subject having colon cancer.SOLUTION: A diagnosing method comprises measuring the level of at least one miR gene product, where an alteration in the level of the miR gene product in a test sample, relative to the level of a corresponding miR gene product in a control sample, is indicative of the subject either having or being at risk for developing the colon cancer-related disease. Also provided is a method for inhibiting tumorigenesis which comprises altering the amount of miR gene product expressed in the cancer cells.
