PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for producing a monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon capable of producing a monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon having 6 to 8 carbon atoms from a raw material oil containing a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon in a high yield and preventing deterioration in yield of a monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon having 6 to 8 carbon atoms with time, and a method for producing a monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon.SOLUTION: There is provided a catalyst for producing a monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon having 6 to 8 carbon atoms from a raw material oil having a 10 volume% distillation temperature of 140°C or more and a 90 volume% distillation temperature of 380°C or less, which contains a crystalline aluminosilicate and phosphorus, wherein the molar ratio (P/Al ratio) between phosphorus contained in the crystalline aluminosilicate and aluminum in the crystalline aluminosilicate is 0.5 or more and 1.0 or less. There is provided a method for producing a monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon in which a raw material oil having a 10 volume% distillation temperature of 140°C or more and a 90 volume% distillation temperature of 380°C or less is brought into contact with the catalyst for producing a monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon.
