The present invention relates to a large crosshead diesel engine, including a base for receiving a crankshaft and a rack having two outer walls, the rack is arranged on the base and includes at least one support body, and the support body is designed to have two walls through lateral bracing walls and includes a sliding surface for two neighboring crossheads. A cylinder part is arranged on the rack for receiving a cylinder, the base, the rack and the cylinder part are connected with one another through at least one connecting rod extending in the dual-wall support body in the region of the rack. The base is provided with a single-wall lateral bracing element, and includes at least one bearing seat for mounting a shaft collar of the crankshaft. According to the invention, by means of a holding element capable of removing from a cut, the connecting rod is fixed in the cut in the bearing seat arranged in a region between a longitudinal axis (K) of the crankshaft and the lower end of the base far from the rack.
