A method of treating oil and gas streams including hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) comprising treating the gas stream with an aqueous solution of an amine and a physical solvent which, when mixed in equal mass ratio with the amine or amine mixture, display a dielectric constant of at least about 20, wherein the pKa of the amine is at least about 9.0 and the amine boiling point is at least 200° C.
