At least one volumetric acoustic wave (baw) sensor is positioned within the tank. baw sensor electrodes are at least switchably connected to a positive power circuit via an amplifier to provide an electronic oscillator. At least one acoustic viscosity measurement is determined from an electronic oscillator output, where the electronic oscillator output is different when the baw sensor comes in contact with the liquid, compared to the different case when the baw sensor baw comes in contact with air. The level parameter is determined from the acoustic viscosity measurement.
