A vaccine vector is described comprising a first polynucleotide sequence encoding an Apicomplexa rhomboid polypeptide expressed on the surface of the vaccine vector, where the rhomboid polypeptide is selected from SEQ ID NOS: 1-4, 37, 38, and combinations thereof and the vaccine vector is selected from the group consisting of a virus, a bacterium, a yeast and a liposome; and a pharmaceutical composition comprising said vaccine vector and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
