In the present invention, there is disclosed a method of supplying fuel to dual-fuel system of compression ignition engine, in which the primary fuel, being stored in a primary fuel tank (20), is supplied into the engine injection device (1, 71) through a primary fuel circuit (2) and the alternative fuel, being stored in an alternative fuel tank (30), is supplied into the engine injection device (1, 71) through an alternative fuel circuit (3) wherein as need may be, the engine injection device (1, 71) is alternately connected to the primary fuel circuit (2) or to the alternative fuel circuit (3). When the primary fuel combustion is stabilized, the excessive primary fuel is drained from the injection device back into the primary fuel tank while at stabilized combustion of the alternative fuel the excessive fuel is drained from the injection device back into the alternative fuel tank wherein heating of the alternative fuel is carried out. At the moment of changeover from the alternative fuel to the primary fuel, the excessive mixture of both the fuels is delivered into a choke (37) and further to an alternative fuel outlet line (31) wherein it is temporarily stored outside the alternative fuel tank (30) and at the moment of changeover back to the alternative fuel, first the mixture of both the fuels, being temporarily stored in the alternative fuel outlet line (31), is combusted. Further, there is also disclosed a dual-fuel system of a compression ignition engine per se.
