The present invention relates to a method for producing methyl {4,6-diamino-2- [1- (2-fluorobenzyl) -1H-pyrazolo [3,4-b] pyridin-3-yl] pyrimidin-5-yl} methyl carbamate of the formula (I ) as well as a method for purifying the starting material of a compound of formula (I) for use as a pharmaceutically active substance, and for purifying methyl {4,6-diamino-2- [1- (2-fluorobenzyl) -1H-pyrazolo [3,4- b] pyridin-3-yl] pyrimidin-5-yl} methyl carbamate sulfinyl dimethane (1: 1), i.e. in this purification method, the compound of formula (II) is isolated as an intermediate stage or obtained as an intermediate stage, if necessary in a mixture.
