The present invention relates to a method of treating a near-wellbore zone and to a treatment fluid. A treatment fluid comprises an aqueous base fluid, a viscoelastic surfactant, and a stimuli-responsive polymer, wherein the stimuli-responsive polymer is water-soluble, where the stimuli-responsive water-soluble polymer comprises a stimuli-degradable polymer, where the stimuli-degradable polymer is a copolymer comprising an acid generating group and a degradable group. The method includes providing the near-wellbore treatment fluid, introducing the treatment fluid into a subterranean formation, and allowing the treatment fluid viscosity to change to a second viscosity in response to a stimulus.
