METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR LOCALIZING AND/OR EXTINGUISHING FIRES

A method for localizing and/or extinguishing fires, designed primarily for effectively fighting large-scale and intensive fires occurring in almost inaccessible locations, consists of the combined direct action on a fire zone of a finely dispersed air cloud (4) of fire- extinguishing composition, a shock air wave (5) and a velocity head of air and detonation products which are formed as a result of explosion of a dispersing charge of a fire-suppressing apparatus (1) when the latter approaches a combustion zone. The fire- suppressing apparatus (1), realizing the proposed method, is made in the form of a vessel of ecologically ckean material, which is filled with a fire-extinguishing composition, is provided with a dispersing charge and a sensor of a selected parameter, for example, height, adjusted to a predetermined value of the parameter (height), upon reaching which when the fire-suppressing apparatus (1) approaches the combustion zone, an explosion of the dispersing charge takes place at a predetermined area of the fire, wherein the dimensions and location of the fire-suppressing areas are selected depending on the type of fire and the dimensions of the formed finely dispersed cloud (4) of fire-extinguishing composition.
